Tuition, Dependency and Failure

Education should be free, or as close to free as possible [as stated in our constitution].  My daughter goes to ASU and the tuition increases each and every year.  Thousands of dollars come out of my pocket to insure a good education her. Please note I said good, because I truly believe that the educational facilities in Arizona are far below what a person could learn thru diligent studying at home, however that does not carry the "degree" needed for the hiring according to state requirements.

Now, recently the Federal Government has pulled or greatly reduced funding for our states Universities.  This has caused an incredible strain on the current fiscal situation at said Universities.  After much complaining from the students and parents [which usually pay the expenses], the Universities have agreed to minimize the tuition increases as best they can...  Sounds fair...  Sounds almost generous on their part, doesn't it?  Well what they neglected to mention is that some fees have increased!  Obviously there is no reason to believe that this has anything to do with the massive shortfall in revenue the Universities are experiencing at this moment...  Oh no, just merely coincidental that it happens at this time.  But the normal increases in fees are somewhere in the 5% range, give or take, and at that they tend to be limited to only a few.  Well this year the "few" cover 8 pages of listed fees!  Many well over 50% in increases!

The reason this is happening is not because the Federal Government has pulled funding, but much more to the fact that our Universities have relied one hundred and ten percent on that funding!!!  John Q. Public has to pay his bills on the income he earns.  If someone hands us an extra twenty bucks, we can then splurge and buy that new mop or take the car for that overdue oil change for the 7 year old vehicle we are attempting to own from the bank someday.  Do we then wait with our hands stretched out the next week expecting that twenty to reappear?  Oh wait, I mean it should be twenty-five bucks now because that's the way it works...  Right???

Never should the Universities have expected the money to be there year after year after year.  The simple truth of the matter is that we the American public allow these "higher" educational facilities to operate way outside of their guaranteed budget.  ANYTHING the Feds wish to bless upon them should be used to fund needed and necessary projects not exceeding the amount given, not build satellite campuses in areas not only unrealistic for the average student, but not even have available parking nearby in which to access that campus [as in the Downtown campus of ASU].

The Presidents of ALL of Arizona’s Universities should have their wages garnished and placed back into the educational fund.  Then perhaps we could send them to prison where they could reflect on their misguided ways of budgeting with their cell buddy BUBBA!

Foreign Oil

The dependency on foreign oil is choking this planet as well as our economy.  America needs to get this monkey off its back.  I have been pushing “Hydrogen Fuel Cells” for quite some time.  If you are not familiar with this new concept, click here… Now that you’re up to speed on the technology; you know that the ONLY vehicle emission is pure water, pure enough to drink right out of the tailpipe.  Science lesson; hydrogen is the most abundant element in the UNIVERSE.  It is 100% renewable; its natural physical state on Earth is to be combined to Oxygen molecules.  You may have heard of this as H2O…  Also know as WATER.

I know the critics bring up the point that it takes energy to separate these two elements which is completely true; however the more fuel cell vehicles that are put into production, the cheaper it will be to manufacture.  As a matter of fact, gasoline had the same situation until mass production was required.  This worked well until the shortage in the 70’s and then the ultimate need to become dependent on foreign oil.  Did I mention that hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and can NEVER be depleted!!!  Hopefully the government will wise up and force the issue, but as long as an oil President in power, all there will be is talk.

Illegal Immigration

Cheap labor versus the soul of America.  Some say that without the illegals we would have to pay more for goods and services.  I say, pay everyone a fair wage, and then let the economy dictate what we are WILLING to pay.  The nation's economic structure is basically a simple one, American's need some necessities that we unfortunately have no control over [legal or not], then there are the NON-essential items which we don't have to possess if the price is too high.  If goods are not being purchased, the prices must be lowered or wages must be increased.  Overall, prices will most likely increase, but America will have its dignity.

One last note...  Why can't we send 20 million illegal aliens back to their home countries?  I don't want to hear that it's impossible or impractical.  We won't know that till we try.   Close the borders and then ship them home.  Someone once said "Impossibilities only dwell within the heart of those who have never tried" or something like that.

Standardized Testing and All Day Kindergarten

I for one am against the idea that everyone should conform to a certain set of guidelines.  Standardized Testing somehow assumes that there is a baseline of knowledge.  At what point did self expression and independent thinking go out the window?  As it stands now, a student in high school can pass every subject with a 4.0 GPA [formally known as "A's"] but fails to complete the requirements [AIMS TEST] set forth by an unseen force of evil and as such will not be eligible to graduate with his/her classmates.  And speaking of Evil Governor Napolitano, why does she believe that Kindergarteners should attend school ALL day?  Children should be eased into the learning process gradually.  Let’s not teach the future minds of America to hate school immediately, that will naturally arrive somewhere around third of forth grade.  There's no need to rush the torment.

Bottom line is that people need to have their own individual thoughts.  Where would this country be if our Forefathers were required to pass a standardized form of testing?  Westinghouse, Franklin, Edison, Jefferson and others that I can't recall at the moment [I should have paid more attention in school] would most likely have been considered failures before they entered puberty.

Children need to learn but not at the expense of losing one’s self awareness.

Political views.

I'm a registered Independent and vote as such.  I do not pay much attention to who belongs to which party simply because both parties are EVIL.  I believe that the best man [or woman] should win, unfortunately the majority of Americans are steered into whatever direction the media wishes.

As far as Prejudice Bush [reference to Katrina],  He finally admits that mistakes were made concerning the war in Iraq and that he now wants to send in more troops in order to remedy  said mistakes.  Please notice the timing in which he has done this.  He has had the past four years or so to saturate Iraq with troops, but waits until the republicans are no longer in complete control of the government.  My conclusion is simple, if he doesn't receive approval from the dems, he gets to blame them, however if he actually gets permission, he'll state what a good boy he is playing nicey nice with the mean dem bullies.

My views on the war...  Which war?  The one to find and kill Osama Bin Laden who destroyed Manhattan on 9/11, or the war to find and kill a bully that was very little threat to America.  Anyone seen what a desert underground nuke test does to the landscape?  As far as I'm concerned, we should have sent in a special forces unit, drilled a hole smack dab in the middle of the Torah Bora Mountains, dropped a nuke, ran like hell and watched all of the caves that were protecting the taliban along with Osama simply lift straight up and fall back onto themselves.  Makes a helluva parking lot.  But no, we jerked around following a radio signal that Osama was using to track him down with.  Turns out Osama took off running but left one of his lackys behind to keep using that radio.  That's right folks, while Osama was getting away, we were following the wrong guy.

Now we turn our attention to Iraq.  Yes, I know all about the resolutions and how Saddam wasn't following the guidelines set forth within those resolutions.  Fine, he should have been punished and I'm very happy he was finally able to dangle from the end of a short rope.  Here's what I don't understand, are we [America] the only ones that have to enforce these resolution violations?  I mean we're already fighting a war in Afghanistan, who is France, Germany, Canada, Australia, or for that matter, every other country sitting right next door to Iraq raging war with on a scale that we are?  Point being, shouldn't someone else have taken care of Saddam...  We were a little busy at that moment.
